Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday vowed to ensure voting in all embassies and diplomatic missions for citizens living abroad for the upcoming parliamentary elections in October.
All immigrants who express their desire to vote will have the opportunity to do so, all the rest is speculation”, Kobakhidze noted in his comments to the media and acknowledged the existing mobility issues for the citizens abroad, stressing the polling stations would be arranged wherever possible.
He claimed that current data showed the ruling Georgian Dream party would secure a constitutional majority in the Parliament in the October elections. The number of supporters of the biggest opposition party United National Movement has fallen to 15 percent, he pointed out, adding that other parties would probably not be able to overcome the barrier.

The Georgian Parliament on Tuesday overrode Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s veto on the amendments to the election code, approved by the Parliament, that stipulated the transfer of the power to elect the Chair and members of the Central Election Commission to the President if the legislative body failed to elect them in two attempts.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the Georgian Prime Minister, on Tuesday said the Government was doing “everything” to ensure “fair” parliamentary elections in October, highlighting “fundamental” changes in legislation and introduction of an electronic system of voting, vote counting and voter registration.
